BioVision 2020 (owned by SembSITA Australia and WA-based superannuation fund Westscheme) signed a historically significant agreement with Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) and have built an $80 million Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) in Perth’s northern suburbs.
This facility was opened on Friday 27 March, 2009, by Mr Paul Miles MLA, Member for Wanneroo.
MRC is WA’s largest waste management authority, managing the collection, disposal and treatment of waste generated annually by some 500,000 people living in its locality.
The new RRF will treat up to 100,000 tonnes of household waste annually, significantly reducing the volume of household waste sent to landfill, and convert about 70% of recovered material into premium market-quality compost.
SITA’s Alternative Waste Technology (AWT) specialist, Marco Fontana said “This facility will see Perth become one of the most sustainable cities in the world from a recycling and waste management perspective.“
