SITA recognises that landfill plays an important and necessary part in managing Australia's waste disposal. Even new technologies generate a proportion of residual waste stream which must be disposed of.

Secure, engineered facilities are the community’s best environmental management option for those wastes that can’t yet be recycled or reused. SITA owns and operates Australia’s most highly engineered solid waste facilities.

Our facility designs include a variety of environmental protection measures including strict waste acceptance and handling procedures, base liner systems, collection and treatment of liquid wastes, collection and use of landfill gas, groundwater and surface water management, and detailed environmental monitoring and reporting.

These measures meet or exceed requirements set out in the landfills’ operating licences issued by EPA.
