SUEZ to operate Kooragang Industrial Water Scheme

SUEZ has entered into an agreement to operate and maintain the Kooragang Industrial Water Scheme (KIWS) located north of Newcastle.

KIWS is an advanced water treatment plant which produces up to 3.3 billion litres of recycled water per annum, which is sold to Orica Limited.

The announcement follows the sale of the plant from Hunter Water Corporation (Hunter Water) to ITOCHU Corporation (ITOCHU).

David Lamy, CEO of SUEZ’s Water & Treatment Solutions division said the contract builds on the company’s presence in the Australian water market and strengthens SUEZ’s relationship with ITOCHU.

SUEZ owns or operates 67 water, wastewater, desalination and water reuse plants and schemes across Australia.

“SUEZ has a strong presence providing resource management solutions to help make the best use of water and waste across the Newcastle and Hunter Region,” Mr Lamy said.

“The Kooragang Industrial Water Scheme agreement builds on our expertise in providing smart solutions to the industrial water sector,” he added.

The long-term agreement encompasses the complete management of the plant.
