SITA partners with ACT’s Communities@Work

Communities@Work received a significant boost this week with SITA becoming a corporate partner.  The partnership involves a $47,000.00 package of support that will fund a number of vital programs in Canberra.

The funding will contribute to Communities@Work’s Galilee School, Communities@Work’s social programs and the donation of waste and recycling bins across 19 of the Communities@Work locations.

Communities@Work, CEO, Lynne Harwood, said the new partnership will directly support some of the most vulnerable residents of Canberra.

“It is fitting the announcement comes today at our Galilee School Open Day as $15,000 of the sponsorship funds will be provided to support the important work of the school, to assist in providing education opportunities for young people who are disadvantaged and at risk of totally disengaging.”

The partnership package will also see SITA donating $500 of bio-diesel fuel each month to help run the Yellow Vans. Every month, Communities@Work’s Yellow Vans rescue 20 tonnes of excess food from retailers, event caterers, institutions and corporate offices. The rescued food is redistributed to more than 50 charities which on support thousands of individuals.

Jason Stewart, SITA ACT Manager said the partnership was a natural fit to the company.

“Communities@Work is an inspirational local organisation that provides opportunities and support to help people in need,” he said.

By supporting Communities@Work’s Galilee School, installing bins for waste and recycling management in child care and education centres and supporting Communities@Work’s Social Programs, Mr Stewart said SITA hopes to improve the quality of life of those in need in the local area.

“As the leader in resource recovery, we are particularly aware of the opportunities and services Communities@Work provides that are helping to create a sustainable future for our youth, our community and our environment.”

“SITA has a long history and presence in Canberra and we are pleased to be able to partner with an organisation that assists those most vulnerable in our local region,” Mr Stewart said.
