SITA continues to partner with SHOROC

SITA has been awarded the Shore Regional Organisation of Councils (SHOROC) contract for the management and disposal of household waste.

The new three-year contract commenced on Tuesday 11 November, and is valued at approximately $14 million annually.

The SHOROC group comprises of Manly, Mosman, Pittwater and Warringah Councils. SITA will carry on servicing the 110,600 households of Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

SITA’s Executive Director of Infrastructure, Emmanuel Vivant, said: “SITA is excited to continue its work with SHOROC to provide a local waste management solution in a community that cares about its impact on the environment.”

“As part of the contract, SITA will be putting the region’s waste to good use with 6,000 tonnes of household waste to be sorted, sifted and processed into compost at an Alternative Waste Treatment facility. This compost can then be used in rehabilitation projects to replenish severely degraded soils,” Mr Vivant said.

Mr Vivant said SITA is also exploring the opportunity to roll out SITA’s Get Sorted™ app across the Northern Beaches in the New Year.

“The Get Sorted™ app created by SITA provides accurate and up-to-date information about local waste and recycling services at the touch of a button on any smartphone,” Mr Vivant said.

All general waste collected by SITA will be initially processed locally at SITA’s Belrose Resource Recovery Centre.
