SITA Community Grants awards 21 community groups with more than $96,000 in grants

04/04/2014

Twenty-one community groups across Australia are one step closer to realising their project dreams with more than $96,000 in funding awarded through the SITA Community Grants program.

SITA’s Managing Director, Eric Gernath, said that the inaugural round of grant recipients as part of the program are “deserving of our support” and will help to grow community involvement in their local area.

“Through the SITA Community Grants program, we look for groups and projects that would help everyday people to interact, be inspired or influence others to make real, positive change in their
local community. Through the program we have found so many deserving projects that will do just that,” said Mr Gernath.

“From Cairns in Queensland to Geelong in Victoria, Western Sydney in New South Wales to Neerabup in Western Australia, we are honoured to be able to assist twenty-one successful
applicants in this small way,” he said.

The community projects range from a large-scale inclusive play space being constructed by the Touched by Olivia Foundation in Lyndhurst, Victoria to the installation of a rooftop power generation system by the Brighton Community Garden in Wanneroo, Western Australia.

The SITA Community Grants program was launched in October 2013 to support local activities and grow community involvement in social and environmental projects. The program provides grants of up to $5,000 each for projects that encourage participation in creating a sustainable future for Australian communities.

SITA is the first waste company in Australia to launch a national community grant program.
