SITA takes flight with national community grants program

The leader in resource recovery, SITA will launch its national Community Grants Program at Bankstown Airport on Friday, 25 October.

The event will be attended by well over 100 guests including Federal MP for Fowler, Mr Chris Hayes, Federal MP for Parramatta, Ms Julie Owens and Mr Craig Kelly, Federal MP for Hughes. Also attending will be a number of State MPs, Councillors and representatives from a range of community organisations.

At the launch SITA will present its first official community grant to ‘Little Wings’, a not-for-profit organisation that provides a free flight and transportation service for children with serious, life-threatening medical conditions from rural and regional NSW to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Little Wings aims to lessen the travel fatigue, financial burden, emotional strain and length of separation from their families that these children experience. During the launch Little Wings will be unveiling a second customised aircraft to be used in their fleet.

SITA Managing Director, Eric Gernath said,

“SITA has a long history of supporting a range of community initiatives and is committed to long-term positive outcomes in the communities in which we operate.

“We are aware of the important role grass roots organisations play in contributing to the sustainability of local communities and it is for this reason that we have launched the national Community Grants Program.

“We could not find a more worthy recipient of our first community grant than Little Wings and are delighted to have them partnering with us in the launch”, said Mr Gernath.

SITA is now calling for first round applications from eligible organisations for grants between $500 and $5000 each. Our inaugural grant round opens today and will close on 31 January 2014, with the first round of funding distributed in 2014.

The launch event will provide an opportunity to not only learn more about the SITA Community Grants Program but also to see firsthand the Little Wings aircraft and to meet some of the Little Wings families whom benefit from this incredible service.
