Harry’s Shed commissions new sander

15/12/2015

The City of Canada Bay Men’s Shed, more fondly known as Harry’s Shed, has recently purchased a new sanding machine thanks to local community grant funding.

More than 60 Shed members come together weekly to create products from offcuts and recycled wood. The new sander has assisted with recent projects such as restoring an old garden bench and creating various items for local sports clubs.

Through the SUEZ Community Grants program, the Harry’s Shed received a $2,526 grant to cover the purchase and installation of a new oscillating belt sander.

Along with the sander, the grant has assisted with the cost of training Shed members on how to use the new machine.

John Hassett, State General Manager – NSW & SA Collections, said SUEZ was excited to support a local organisation that both encourages community involvement and inspires participation in sustainable activities.

“It’s always positive to see community organisations putting waste to good use, creating new products from recycled materials,” said Mr Hassett.

The Men’s Shed’s Vice-President, Norman Tate said that without the support of SUEZ, they wouldn’t be able to have purchased the new sander.

“The new equipment will allow relatively unskilled Shed members to participate more fully in the creation of recycled timber project,” said Mr Tate.

SUEZ launched the company’s community grants program in 2013 and to date has provided more than $250,000 in funding across Australia.
