Greener pastures make for happy horses

Riding for the Disabled Association NSW (RDA)  Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter Centre’s therapy horses are enjoying greener pastures after receiving funding to improve the soil in their local paddocks.

The local RDA currently provides therapeutic riding programs to more than 100 people with disabilities. The program assists participants with the development of life skills and helps them to achieve their personal goals.

Through the SUEZ Community Grants program, RDA Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter received a $4,932 grant to improve their pastures and help to reduce the cost of hay for the associations 16 horses.

Andrew Quinn, Environment Quality Safety Coordinator - Hunter & Central Coast, presented the cheque to Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter RDA at their Volunteer Awards Luncheon, and said SUEZ was excited to support the program.

Mrs Janet Sharp, President RDA Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter Centre, said that the grant will allow RDA to purchase natural fertilizers with the dual aim of improving the paddock’s soil and growing better pastures.

“At the Centre, our aim is to develop our riders’ physical and social skills through the enjoyment of horses. The happier the horses are, the better they behave, subsequently they are a lot calmer around our riders,” said Mrs Sharp.

SUEZ launched the company’s community grants program in 2013 and to date has provided more than $250,000 in funding across Australia.
