SITA Australia has been awarded Waste Management Company of the Year at the annual Frost and Sullivan Australia Excellence Awards, held in Sydney on 26 November

Industry Director

(R) Erin Tinker, SITA General Manager, Strategy & Development

Now in its eighth year, the Frost & Sullivan Australia Excellence Awards recognises companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic development. The Frost & Sullivan Award for Company of the Year is presented to the company who has exhibited outstanding management and consistent growth.

SITA’s Strategy and Development GM, Erin Tinker said, “We are honoured to accept this award which recognises our leadership in the industry. SITA has experienced strong growth, with revenues more than doubling within the last five years, driven by a combination of organic, asset based and acquisition growth.”

The award specifically recognised SITA’s contribution towards the circular economy. Ms Tinker said “Australia has one of the highest per capita waste generation rates in the world, making it critical for the industry to deliver sustainable solutions to manage waste responsibly and, increasingly, to view waste as a valuable resource which can be recovered and recycled. SITA has taken a leading role in developing these solutions and we are delighted to be recognised with this award”.

SITA has played a key role in developing large scale Advanced Resource Recovery Technology (ARRT) facilities which extract resources and recyclables from household waste. SITA now owns and operates around half of the ARRT facilities in Australia. Through SITA-ResourceCo the company has developed the only Alternative Fuels facility operating in Australia, which transforms Commercial and Industrial (C&I) and Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste into a fuel product, which replaces gas and coal in cement kilns and other industrial processes.

Frost & Sullivan Analyst – Best Practices, Jonathan Leong, said “SITA has led the waste management industry in Australia with the ideology of a circular economy. The company has positioned itself as a leader in resource recovery as it hammered through multiple projects that aim at resource recovery and recycling technologies”.
