Dandelion recycles nursery equipment to over 2,000 families

Dandelion Support Network (Dandelion) put waste to good use by providing preloved and new nursery furniture and items for babies and children.

While most items donated are in good condition, some are missing or have broken parts. These items are not able to be rehomed unless those parts are replaced.

Through the SUEZ Community Grants program, Dandelion, has received a $2,500 grant to help the organisation repair and recycle cots, prams and car seats so they can meet safety standards.

Within the last two years the Dandelion Support Network has helped more than 2,000 Sydney families in need. Funds will be put towards purchasing the spare parts required to help rehome nursery equipment as well as purchase new mattresses for old cots.

Phil Carbins, SUEZ Sydney Landfill Business Manager, presented the cheque to Dandelion at the organisation’s headquarters and said SUEZ was delighted to support a local organisation that both encourages community involvement and recovers and reuses material.

“Dandelion provides an amazing service to the wider Sydney community and it’s a pleasure to enable the program to continue helping families in need,” said Mr Carbins.

Gabrielle Humphreys, President of Dandelion, says that the recycling program will assist approximately 80 families before the end of the year.

"We are very grateful to SUEZ for their support of the program which will allow us to purchase the little things such as tether straps and safety bars for prams and replacement foam for car seats," Mrs Humphreys explains.

SUEZ launched the company’s community grants program in 2013 and to date has provided more than $250,000 in funding across Australia.
