Artarmon gets a makeover

13/11/2015

After more than 30 years in operation, the Transfer Station at the Artarmon Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) has undergone a $1.78 million refurbishment and reopened to the public, Thursday 12 November.

The Artarmon site, located just off Sydney’s Pacific Highway, is an integral part of SUEZ’s extensive Transfer Station Network in the Sydney Basin, currently servicing various local Sydney councils including, Willoughby, North Sydney and City of Sydney.

“In order for the site to continue to receive over 160,000 tonnes of waste annually, it required a much needed facelift,” said David Muir, Site Manager Artarmon Resource Recovery Centre.

“This project was no small feat and required a total shutdown of the site’s operations for 16 weeks to support the refurbishment which involved stripping back the top layer of the suspended concrete slab, assessing the areas condition, and designing an appropriate engineered solution.

“Artarmon RRC is open and ready for business predominately accepting mixed waste, dry waste and recyclable materials. The site also includes a public drop-off area where it also accepts batteries, gas bottles and mattresses which are then recycled,” said David.

Artarmon Resource Recovery Centre will start to receive commercial waste from 10pm, Wednesday 11 November.

Operating hours:
Sunday to Saturday: 10.00pm to 5.00pm
Sunday: 7.00am to 1.00pm
