Hampton Park smart cell®

SUEZ's Hampton Park site is located approximately 30km south east of Melbourne in Victoria.

The site receives general waste, which is predominantly made up of:

  • municipal (household) waste;
  • commercial and industrial waste;
  • construction and demolition materials; and
  • public waste disposal for resource recovery and recycling.

Environmental Management

SUEZ is serious about ensuring our smart cell® operations have little, or no impact, on the surrounding environment.  To achieve this goal, the site has a series of monitoring systems installed. These systems are regularly monitored internally and are annually assessed by an independant, third party environmental auditor.

Currently the Hampton Park smart cell® site deploys:

  • 14 ground water monitoring bores
  • 14 gas monitoring bores
  • 5 leachate sumps

The Hampton Park smart cell® site has Environmental Management ISO14001 and Occupational Health & Safety AS4801 certifications.

Under the current Planning Permit No. 930016A this smart cell® is permitted to operate until December 31, 2040. The smart cell®is also operated under the EPA Waste Discharge Licence No. ES33144.

Energy

The Hampton Park smart cell® site is a producer of electricity for the local region.  The onsite gas capture system converts biogas to energy, and contributes enough electricity to the network to supply power to some 6,500 homes.

There are currently six generators onsite with the capacity to generate 6.6MWh of power.  Planning is currently in place for an additional two generators to be commissioned by 2015.

What else happens on site?

SUEZ's Hampton Park smart cell® is located at the Hampton Park Resource Recovery Precinct, which is home to a number of resource recovery and recycling initiatives, including:

  • A commercial & industrial (C&I) sorting facility
  • The SUEZ-ResourceCo construction & demolitian (C&D) facility
  • A Product Destruction Unit (PDU)
  • An Education Centre
  • Public Transfer Station operated by Outlook Environmental
