Co-mingled Recycling

We collect and process a wide range of co-mingled containers and end-of-life products for resource recovery through our material recycling facilities and resource recovery centres.

Co-mingled Recycling is one of the most versatile services as far as items accepted in the same bin. Most food and beverage containers such as cardboard, plastic bottles, glass jars, aluminium and steel cans are all accepted.

Our Co-mingled Recycling service is a perfect secondary partner to a standard General Waste and also Paper & Cardboard collection service.

Other source seperation receptacles available for your office recycling system are:

  • Under desk and office floor boxes
  • Other recycling receptacles for recycling batteries, fluorescent tubes and globes

What happens after we've collected your Co-mingled Containers?

Co-mingled Recycling that is collected by SITA or dropped off at one of our material recycling facilities is screened, decontaminated, sorted and baled into specific material streams.

Most of the sorting is automated however some sorting is done by hand so it is important to exclude unsafe and/or hazardous material from your recyclable items as it can be dangerous to our employees, contaminate other recyclable items or damage our sorting equipment.

Once the items have been sorted and baled into their specific streams, they are then sent to manufacturers for reprocessing into new products. For example old milk bottles are turned into new wheelie bins.
