Our Key People

Eric Gernath

Managing Director

Following his role as Executive Vice President Commercial Development of United Water, a leading US utility, Eric joined SITA Australia as Managing Director in September 2007.  He has previously held positions in France, China, Taiwan and the USA.

Eric started his career at Foster Wheeler, as Project Manager, before joining the SUEZ group in 1991. After six years at Degremont as General Manager in China, he became Vice President and Strategic Business Leader of Nalco/Ondeo, a water treatment company in the USA. In 2004, he became CEO of Teris, LLC a US waste treatment company.

Eric holds a MS in Chemical Engineering and a MS in Project Management.

 

David Lamy

Chief Financial Officer

Following a three-year appointment as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the SITA Group in Poland, David joined SITA Australia as CFO in September 2009.

David originally joined the SUEZ Group in 2000 with Aguas Argentinas in Buenos Aires. He has held Financial Controller positions on both water and waste businesses in Europe.

David holds an MBA from Essec Business School in Paris.

Lindsay Kyle

General Counsel

Lindsay has worked with SITA Australia since July 2010 in the role of General Counsel and Company Secretary.  She leads the legal team in supporting business activities and in managing regulatory and compliance risks. 

Prior to joining SITA, Lindsay was a partner at Baker & McKenzie law firm where she practised in trade practices and commercial law.  Lindsay has over 15 years experience in legal practice and has advised many of Australia's leading companies in industries ranging from mining and resources to luxury brands. She worked in London as a corporate lawyer before settling in Australia.

Lindsay holds a degree in Law with French, a postgraduate in competition law from Kings College London (top of the year), and a masters in European Law from the University of Brussels. She is a co-author of one of the Australian texts on trade practices laws and an invited speaker at legal conferences. She is a member of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association.
 

Emmanuel Vivant

Executive Director, Infrastructure

Emmanuel has worked with SITA Australia since 2001.  He has 17 years of international experience with SITA in the resource recovery and waste treatment sectors having previously held roles in France and Hong Kong.

Emmanuel has a Civil Engineering degree.

Jon Dyster

General Manager, Human Resources

Jon works closely with SITA’s business unit managers in developing a progressive safety culture, increased workforce capability and greater employee engagement. His responsibilities at SITA extend to the leadership and strategic development of both the Human Resources and Safety functional areas.

He has had over 15 years people management and employee relations experience, having worked at some of Australia’s most successful companies including AMCOR, Arnott’s Biscuits and TABCORP.

Jon is a Member of International HR Directors Forum, regularly contributing to discussions on Human Resources matters affecting foreign owned companies operating in Australia. He has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University.

Michael Salas

Chief Information Officer

With over 15 years experience working in diverse industries, Michael joined SITA as Chief Information Officer in November 2011.  He is responsible for all aspects of SITA's IT strategy, governance, service delivery, systems development and infrastructure.  

In previous roles, Michael successfully led a number of major technology based business transformation programs and consistently drives for best practice and great customer service.  He has worked for some of Australia’s most prominent media, entertainment and financial services companies. 

Most recently, Michael was Head of Infrastructure & Operations at Perpetual Limited where during the tough economic climate of the GFC transformed the infrastructure platform and IT services offered to the business.  Prior to this role he was Head of Technology at Australia’s leading ticketing company, Ticketek.

Erin Tinker

General Manager, Strategy & Development

Erin is responsible for national strategy and development. She has led a number of major business development opportunities for SITA including the successful acquisition and integration of WSN Environmental Solutions (the NSW Government owned waste business).

Prior to joining SITA, Erin was a Director in the General Industrials Group of a global investment bank with broad experience in originating and executing large acquisition and equity raising projects. She also has experience working as a transactional lawyer at a leading Australia law firm.

Erin holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws (with University Medal) from the University of Sydney as well as a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance & Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.

Greg Panigas

General Manager, Business Improvement

Joining SITA in 1994 as State General Manager, South Australia, Greg was appointed General Manager, Business Improvement in 2011.  

During his tenure in South Australia, he held the position of Vice-Chair, KESAB (Keep South Australia Beautiful) and was a director of SITA-ResourceCo, a joint-venture company specialising in the development of process engineered fuel.

Greg has recently completed a three-year ministerial appointment on the SA Environment Protection Authority board.  During this time he worked on many sub-committees including that of the Environment Protection Policy, which has set new standards in the SA waste industry.

He has 17 years’ experience in the waste industry and a further 16 years’ experience in transport. 

Greg has an MBA (Advanced) from the University of Adelaide, and an Advanced Certificate in Marketing. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 

Margaret Andrews

General Manager, Environment, Quality & Safety

Margaret has over 20 years experience in the waste management industry and over 10 years working within the Environment, Quality & Safety field. 

She was instrumental in the development and implementation of SITA’s national EQ&S Management System and the national certification of the Management System to AS4801 – Occupational Health and Safety and ISO14001 – Environmental Systems.

Margaret has cross-discipline technical expertise in a variety of areas including waste management, occupational health and safety management, training, legal compliance, risk management, environmental management and workers compensation.

She is a qualified Environmental and OH&S Auditor and Incident and Accident Investigator.

 

Peter Stephens

General Manager, National Key Accounts

Peter has over ten years experience in the Australian waste industry, with approximately five of those years working within SITA Australia.

Over the past decade he has held major sales and commercial account management roles in both New South Wales and Queensland in variety of waste industry associated businesses. These roles have focused on providing commercial solutions to customer resource recovery, recycling and waste management needs.

As the General Manager, National Key Accounts, Peter is responsible for delivering SITA's expectations in account management principles, tendering and articulating SITA’s unique position in the marketplace through a team of dedicated national sales professionals.

Peter holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Adelaide University.

John Hassett

State General Manager, New South Wales

John has a background in accounting and 16 years experience in the waste industry. Prior to his current role he held the position of SITA’s Finance Director.

Under John's direction SITA’s New South Wales business has developed a significant waste collection and treatment footprint with the ability to treat a large range of customer waste products including general waste, recycling, liquid, medical, and quarantine and product destruction.

SITA NSW is the largest producer of compost from waste providing a further competitive advantage. He has recently completed a four year term as Director and Treasurer of the Waste Management Association of Australia.

John has a Bachelor of Commerce (UNSW), is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Daniel Fyfe

State General Manager, Victoria

Daniel has 22 years experience in the waste management, resource recovery and waste logistics industries and has managed solid and liquid waste collection, treatment and disposal facilities: designed, permitted, constructed and operated Prescribed Waste Landfills in Australia and New Zealand and a broad knowledge of the environmental industry.

He works closely with waste generators, processors and regulators to drive industry performance. Daniel is a Board Member and the Chair of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Landfill Owners Association (ALOA), a former Board member of Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and regularly consults with state government on waste management and recycling policy.

Daniel has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours from the University of Melbourne, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Queensland and has completed the Company Directors Course from the AICD.

Nial Stock

State General Manager, Western Australia

Nial leads the SITA WA team to provide responsible waste generators with tailored services that are hassle free and maximise resource recovery. He is a a Director of WA Landfill Services (WALS) and SITA-MediCollect, which are within the SITA WA business portfolio, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Waste Management Association of Australia WA branch.

Nial worked for nine years in the transport and logistics industry in the UK and has served for 13 years in the Australian waste industry in a variety of senior, private sector positions. 

He holds a BA Honours Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Town Planning.

Peter Hudson

State General Manager, Queensland

Peter has over 10 years of experience in the waste industry with a background in Project Management. He has held senior management positions in both New South Wales and Queensland prior to joining SITA in 2009. He holds an Executive MBA and is nearing completion of a Masters of Project Management.

Peter is currently the State General Manager for SITA in Queensland, prior to this appointment Peter held the position of General Manager, Commercial & Industrial Services for the Queensland business and had developed a strong and robust business with good growth during that time.

Peter sits on the board of WCRAQ (Waste Contractors and Recyclers Association of Queensland) and is involved through this position in consulting with state government on waste and recycling policies.
